The System Engineer, under general direction, provides day to day support to plant operations and maintenance for utility production and distribution. Serves as the technical specialist for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and energy management systems for new facilities and renovation programs and coordinates the development of these systems at the Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) campuses. Plans and develops unique engineering solutions for projects ranging in type from building systems to site utility and campus infrastructure distribution. This individual exercises discretion and independent judgment and reports to the Director of Campus Planning and Space Management.
Ensure compliance with State Energy Code, accessibility laws, building/material/systems/equipment testing codes and standards and life safety requirements. Provides technical support for engineering related issues such as steam production/distribution, electricity production/distribution, water production/distribution, wastewater collection/treatment, chilled water production/distribution, hot water production/distribution and high voltage electric power. Review the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and energy management design efforts and drawings.
Coordinate components with utility companies and Campus systems.
Provide technical guidance for Space Use requests and programming/planning reviews.
Evaluates overall plant, and individual unit, performance and efficiencies.
Performs thermodynamic analysis of the plant for evaluation of performance and recommends modifications. Maintains the existing utility infrastructure in sound working condition across the University Campuses while coordinating for future growth. Coordinates plant and system drawings update and maintenance. Reviews and recommends improvements to operational procedures.
Studies, evaluates, and recommends equipment replacements and capital improvements.
Review and approve all MEP/Utility work orders. Â
Maintains definitive plant commodity (steam, hot water, chilled water and power) production data.
Review and adjust monthly meter readings and approve utility billings.
Develop design guidelines for the campus in coordination with state energy codes, building codes, System, UES, and contracted vendors.
Assist in the Development of utility plant processes in coordination with the contracted vendors.
Performs other duties as assigned. Â
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
Seven years of job-relatedÂ experience.
Required Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
Professional Engineer registered in the State of Texas or the ability to obtain within one year.
EIT applicants must earn State of Texas P.E. within eighteen (18) months of hire date.Â
Â Valid Texas Class âœCâ driverâ™s license, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
