Teach in the area of Automotive Engineering Technology. Likely areas of emphasis include Engine Combustion/Thermodynamics, Emissions, and Automotive Systems/ Diagnosis. In addition, teaching assignments in graduate level automotive and manufacturing courses are possible.
Supervise and maintain teaching laboratories.
Develop and maintain an active research program that involves both undergraduate and graduate students and have the potential to seek and secure outside funding.
A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.
The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).
This position will advise undergraduate majors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Automotive Engineering Technology.
Master's degree in engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology, science or closely related discipline (conferred on an official transcript at the time of application). (Please note: While a PhD is not a requirement for the position, a doctoral degree is required before receiving tenure in this position.)
Demonstrated ability and qualifications to teach in the areas of Engine Combustion/Thermodynamics, Emissions, and Automotive Systems/ Diagnosis.
Relevant teaching/research/industrial experience in engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology, science or closely related discipline.
Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
PhD in engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology or related field.
Hands-on automotive & manufacturing experience.
Demonstrated ability to teach Automotive Systems, Automotive Driveability, Statics, Strength of Materials, and Fluid Power along with additional courses depending on the department's needs.
Participation in SAE collegiate projects or similar projects.
Demonstrated ability to work with faculty and staff in a collegial and cooperative manner.
Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships with business, education and/or community organizations.
ABET, ISO or other continuous improvement process activities.
Demonstrated ability to develop and supervise laboratory areas in Engine Combustion/Thermodynamics, Emissions, and Automotive Systems/ Diagnosis.
Have or potential to involve undergraduate and/or graduate students in research or creative activity.
Demonstrated ability to conduct applied research.
SAE, ASME, ASQ, SME Membership or other relevant memberships.
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.
The Department of Automotive and Manufacturing Engineering Technology hosts five programs: BS in Automotive Engineering Technology (AET) with approximately 110 students; BS in Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MET) with an enrollment of approximately 50 students; MS in Manufacturing Engineering Technology with 6 students; MS in Automotive Engineering Technology with an enrollment of 8 student; and a Professional Science Masters (PSM) degree in Engineering Management with an enrollment of 11 students. The AET programs are known for applied research in alternative fuels and engine emissions along with vehicle systems development while the MET programs are focused on the development of globally competitive students in computer integrated manufacturing and Lean production methodologies. Both 4-year AET and MET programs are accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org/.
