SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Lead Business Analyst is responsible for working with Senior Engineering leadership to establish Departmental expectations, identify, develop, and implement the means whereby those expectations are measured and report the results. The position develops the tools, frameworks and processes that will be used to connect in-the-field data gathering to senior leadership decision making, with a specific focus on workforce effectiveness and asset management. This includes examining benchmarking results, reviewing work practices, policies, procedures, data, budgets, work standards, and other relevant documentation to ensure efficiency and compliance by the Divisions and Disciplines and a uniform and consistent reporting structure.
The Lead Business Analyst is also be responsible for collaborating with the Engineering Operations Desk to both understand and ensure the quality of the information being captured and reported to the Engineering Department. This position will work with the Engineering Operations Desk to document infrastructure asset failures, coordinate and facilitate compliance with track outage schedules, compile and distribute daily reports, and analyze asset failures and other incident data to provide to Infrastructure Management and Construction Services leadership.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Identify, develop, and implement departmental expectations and the means whereby those expectations are measured, and results reported.
- Ad-Hoc Reporting to consolidate data from multiple reporting systems for senior and executive management.
- Compile weekly/ monthly reports on production plan verse schedule, track possession, overtime, work order compliance, asset failure trends, and additional trend analysis required to drive process improvements.
- Coordination with the Engineering PMO regarding project management related data analysis and reporting
- Collaborate with the Engineering Operations Desk to capture records of infrastructure related incidents and production quantity reports.
- Perform QA/QC on information provided by engineering users to ensure the highest quality data possible for data analysis.
- Associate all infrastructure failures to discrete assets using Maximo, with a defined failure hierarchy.
- Mine delay reporting systems to associate specific delays to each incident.
- Compile daily reports to track planned productivity vs. actual productivity.
- Understand and manage all paths of incident information to record every infrastructure failure in one database.
- Create Maximo work orders as specified by Engineering managers for gangs to perform capital, reimbursable and corrective maintenance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Computer Science, Organizational Management or a related field or the equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of railroad operations
- Demonstrated ability to collect, summarize and analyze financial and operational information
- Proven skills in developing strategies and objectives to meet the needs of the corporation
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport within all levels of the organization and to communicate effectively with departmental managers
- Ability to collect, summarize and analyze operational information
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Work experience in railroad engineering management systems (or related field)
- Familiarity with and ability to apply key concepts in all areas of project management including strategic planning, impact studies, budgetary analysis, logistical planning, and organizational relationships
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
