WFEC is a generation and transmission (G&T) cooperative, headquartered in Anadarko, Oklahoma, was organized in 1941, when western Oklahoma distribution cooperatives found it necessary to secure an adequate power supply at rates that farmers and rural industrial developers could afford. Throughout its history, WFEC’s membership has grown to include 21-member cooperatives, plus Altus Air Force Base. These members are headquartered in Oklahoma and New Mexico. Today, with seven generating facilities, and a total power capacity exceeding 2,200 megawatts, including contract power purchases, WFEC owns and maintains over 3,700 miles of transmission line to over 330 substations and switch stations.
