Great River Energy (GRE) is seeking a member commercial, industrial & agriculture (CI&A) strategist to lead the development and administration of the CI&A beneficial electrification and energy efficiency programs on behalf of Great River Energy and its member-owner retail distribution cooperatives. Fosters positive business relationships, grows beneficial electrification sales, enhances and grows CI&A demand-side management (DSM) programs, and works to ensure achievement of Minnesota energy policy goals. Actively engages member cooperatives, product/technology manufacturers/vendors. Identifies and coordinates external funding opportunities in collaboration with GRE’s member-owners and develops and manages strong member cooperatives’-owner business relationships.
Responsible for setting the tone and leading the development and administration of the CI&A beneficial electrification and energy efficiency programs.
Coordinate the development of CI&A programs including but not exclusive to; electrification, lighting, motors, drives, HVAC, and engineering design assistance.
Lead the Member Cooperative Commercial Key Accounts Working Group on the development and coordination of CI&A program design including program rules and coordinate the implementation of a consistent and balanced metric for the justification of the CI&A rebate portfolio based on cost effectiveness, life of measure, cost of measure, barriers to provide CI&A guidance and support to Great River Energy’s marketing staff for the development of marketing materials that support the program objectives.
Provide CI&A technical support services when requested to the member retail distribution cooperatives. Coordinate these activities with the other member strategists and team members.
Provide CI&A educational opportunities and training to the member retail distribution cooperatives on new product and technologies.
Coordinate funding opportunities with GRE’s member-owners. Develop partnership and deployment strategies to maximize collaboration with member-owners in pursuit of federal and state grant opportunities.
Provide continuous key account services to member cooperatives that will ensure complete member satisfaction and positive member experiences.
Be an advocate for the member retail distribution cooperatives. Articulate member needs and challenges by communicating concerns and ideas with appropriate GRE staff.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of all the GRE Member Service Department’s programs, load control operating system, and business operations.
On an as-needed basis meet with member cooperatives. Coordinate visits with member strategists.
Understand member cooperatives actual / budget MN Energy policy reporting processes. Support annual member cooperative budget workshops.
Review and approve member cooperatives’ custom CI&A rebate requests in a timely manner and ensure maximum energy savings and cost-effective results.
Obtain a clear and comprehensive understanding of the cooperative’s business issues and challenges which includes identifying short-term and long-term opportunities to provide value to the assigned member cooperatives.
Ensure complete communication and contact with appropriate cooperative personnel on a regular basis and invite appropriate GRE staff as requested or required.
Provide input and feedback to department strategic planning and workplan development efforts.
Support and participate in GRE member services events, meetings, training workshops, and member relationship development gatherings (during or after business hours).
Coordinate and/or participate in member cooperative or trade ally events, tradeshows and meetings.
Plans, directs and monitors all activities for small to large scale projects.
Partners with internal team members and member-owners to define and scope projects, determine implications, resource requirements and impact
Manages project activities and direct efforts to ensure work will be completed on time, within budget, and will meet customers’ needs.
Education & Experience
Knowledge typically acquired through a bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, energy management, public policy, energy related, marketing/ or related field. Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Certified Business Energy Professional (BEP) is preferred. A minimum of five years of working in electric utility business, marketing, cooperative energy services, demand response programs and/or commercial key accounts or related field is required.

Knowledge of technical issues related to residential and commercial electric needs/challenges.
Knowledge of wholesale and retail load management and conservation programs.
