Electrical Engineer I:
- Provide necessary skills for the effective performance of the activities of the position.
- Make recommendations for changes needed to improve the operations of EnergyUnited related to engineering.
- Coordinate & cooperate with other personnel in performing assigned responsibilities.
- Observe all Safety Rules, work rules and Regulations adopted by the Cooperative.
- Assist the Manager of System Engineering in planning and implementation of departmental and company objectives
- Review and conduct research on equipment and materials, the system design and changing system requirements, taking into consideration reliability, cost and best correct engineering practices including long-range system studies, 4-year construction work plans, sectionalizing studies, capacitor studies, and loss analysis
- Become knowledgeable of RUS engineering related bulletins and regulations, Cooperative policies and Service Rules and Regulations.
- Become proficient in designing transmission, substation, distribution, and other facilities that affect the performance of the electric system.
- Provide guidance and assist Distribution Designers on methods of supply to Developments and Complex Loads to factor cost, reliability, operations, and safety.
- Analyze reliability of electrical system and recommends remedial action as required for such problems as frequent outage or blinks, low voltage, etc.
- Maintain up to date specifications of electric materials and equipment required for the reliable operation of the electric system.
- Become knowledgeable of the operation and control of the SCADA and Energy Management Systems.
- Become knowledgeable of the cooperative’s data sources and structures and develop reports as needed to achieve Engineering objectives.
- Become knowledgeable of the Distribution Automation Systems and Automated Metering Infrastructure Systems of the Cooperative.
- Become knowledgeable of the Interconnection policies of the Cooperative, including the impact of Distributed Generation Sources on the system.
- Become knowledgeable in the operations of the Dispatch Center and provide dispatch support during major storms or as needed. Become knowledgeable of the Outage Management System.
- Be responsible for meeting customer and member needs related to power quality such as stray voltage, large motor starting, harmonic distortion and flicker/blinks.
- Assist different groups in the development of Metrics for the company.
- Attend conferences and schools as requested by the Manager of System Engineering.
- Maintain professional development to include obtaining Fundamentals of Engineering Certification and preparation for Professional Engineer registration.
- Other duties relating to the position as assigned.
Electrical Engineer II
- All the above plus the elevated responsibilities of:
- Assisting the Dispatch Center and provide dispatch support during major storms or as needed. Maintain knowledgeable of the Outage Management System.
- Must maintain up to date knowledge of RUS engineering related bulletins and regulations, Cooperative policies and Service Rules and Regulations.
- May take on the additional responsibilities of:
- Maintaining proficiency in the design and operation of the Distribution Automation Systems and Automated Metering Infrastructure Systems of the Cooperative.
- Designing and maintaining the Interconnection policies of the Cooperative, including the impact of Distributed Generation Sources on the system.
- Other duties relating to the position as assigned.
Electrical Engineer III
- All the above plus the elevated responsibilities of:
- The ability to take a lead role on teams as assigned by the Cooperative.
- Taking a lead role in the designing of transmission, substation, distribution, and other facilities that affect the performance of the electric system.
- May take on the additional responsibilities of:
- Strong knowledge in the design and operation of the Distribution Automation Systems and Automated Metering Infrastructure Systems of the Cooperative.
- Other duties relating to the position as assigned.
To be Considered for the Position, you should have:
- A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution in electrical engineering or equivalent (required).
- Entry level to highly experienced (Electrical Engineer I, II or III – Level to be determined by experience) Prior experience is preferred. A PE license in the State of North Carolina is desirable.
- Availability to be on-call when needed and willing to report to different offices periodically.
- Experience in the planning and operations of an electrical distribution system and knowledge of the operation of power systems is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of computer operations relating to file management, engineering data processes, software, and hardware interfaces
- The ability to be proficient in running, changing, storing, and managing various system planning cases and scenarios while utilizing different engineering analysis tools
- A good understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code and RUS standards is desired
- A positive, open mind and have a considerate attitude toward the responsibilities of the position
- The ability to be a self-starter and have a conscientious attitude toward neatness, timeliness, prioritization, accuracy, and record keeping
- High moral integrity and possess good personal habits
- The ability to retain confidential information, project a good public image, function cooperatively with peers to meet departmental objectives, implement work plan, make sound decisions from observations and carry out instructions
- Superior mathematical abilities, and computer skills
- A valid North Carolina driver's license with a good driving record.
Where will you work?
- This position is classified as a Hybrid position which allows the work associated with this position to be performed at both an EnergyUnited Office location and an employee’s home.
- This position is exempt as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act as amended
- All employees assigned to headquarters or non-direct operational positions must make their domicile within one of the nineteen counties served by the Cooperative or within a 40 (forty) mile radius of any EnergyUnited EMC office.
