Reports to the Senior Director of Facilities (SDF). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, management of all trades persons and related vendors and oversight of preventative maintenance, work order completion and backlog, commissioning, plan and submittal review, etc. Supervises, manages, and assigns tasks to six direct Working Foreman reports: HVAC and Plumbing, Fire/Life Safety, Electrical, Controls Specialist, Master Craftsman, and General Maintenance. Fourteen additional indirect reports for maintenance staff and other staff assigned on a daily basis, including first, second, third, and weekend shifts. In house trades shops include HVAC, Controls, Electrical, Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting, and General Maintenance.
The primary goal of this position is to consistently provide exceptional customer service and to continuously improve the level of customer service provided by the HBS Facilities Department
Works closely with other HBS departments to ensure customer service is well coordinated. Meets with customers on a regular basis to ensure quality of service experience and to provide quality assurance checks of completed work orders
Follows up with customers as needed (i.e. repeat calls)
Attends meetings as needed to stay abreast of all work on campus and acts as liaison between
Operations office and trades shop, ensuring continuity of information sharing and teamwork
Is present and visible at all high-profile campus events, such as Commencement, Reunions and Class Day to foster an
B.S. preferred in a related field with at least 5-10 years experience in supervision of facilities work/trades crew/staff
Knowledge of OSHA regulations, building codes, environmental agency requirements, life safety standards, etc. required.
Must be construction-document and drawing literate, with knowledge of all phases of construction.
Must have experience and proficiency in all methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control as they relate to MEP
Knowledge of facilities, construction and IT terminology strongly desired.
Experience supervising and effectively collaborating with professionals at varying levels of responsibility and skills.
Ability to evaluate, select and manage appropriate vendors for MEP related services.
Building energy management systems and computer aided facilities maintenance systems (CAFM/Service Now) experience preferred.
Must possess excellent decision making and organizational skills.
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion with sensitive and confidential materials
Ability to communicate well in verbal and written form is essential.
Demonstrated professionalism in interactions with university faculty, staff and students, public officials, contractors, and the general public.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work well and build relationships with other Harvard department employees and vendors
Self-motivated and takes initiative to resolve problems.
Must be able to meet deadlines in fast paced environment.
Attention to detail is a must
