As a visionary and thoughtful leader of the campus utility systems evolution, execute on a plan to meet and exceed savings objectives. Drive strategic portfolio-wide initiatives that result in reliability, resiliency, efficiency, safety, and reduced carbon emissions. Represent the University and the Department with leadership, faculty, students, clients, suppliers, and outside engineering and architectural firms.
Coordinate the energy procurement and utilization of the campus's central utility plants to maximize efficiency and minimize cost.
Identify building mechanical problems impacting energy consumption; and analyze heating, cooling, ventilation, and lighting systems to determine optimum operating conditions. Advise maintenance shops on energy efficient operation of building mechanical systems. Develop and recommend maintenance project priorities for equipment and operational strategies to maximize operating efficiency.
Participate in the selection process of consulting services and the development and review of designs, working drawings, estimates, and specifications of construction and renovation projects that relate to the University's utility infrastructure.
Forecast the utility portfolio budget from development of the annual plan to execution. Drive efficiency constantly and be a good steward of Colgate's resources.
Determine the needs of the existing Utility infrastructure for renewal through utility planning to constantly improve the resiliency and reliability of the overall systems. This position will provide the technical leadership role in assuring a cooperative teamwork approach to the design, construction, and turnover process of all projects.
Maintain contact and professional relationships with senior officials of other universities and representatives of technical organizations, professional groups and societies, leaders of architectural/engineering firms, building contractors and associations, local officials, and regulatory organizations.
Serve as a role-model, advocate, and mentor to direct reports and staff. Create and sustain an environment that fosters teamwork, excellence, respect, accountability, and diversity.
Professional Experience/Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience with energy management and energy procurement.
Strong detail orientation with a data-driven approach to strategic decisions. Excellent financial acumen and ability to understand complex budgets and contractual agreements.
Flexible, problem-solving approach to leadership.
Excellent interpersonal skills in order to represent the department in the overall Colgate community.
Ability to think strategically and drive priority initiatives through the organization.
Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
Collaborative leader who is able to develop relationships across the University.

Education:
A Bachelor's degree, ideally in an engineering discipline, is strongly preferred.

Responsible for following all procedures to conduct work activities in a safe manner including but not limited to wearing PPE required for specific duties and safe handling of chemicals as outlined by University policies and/or the supervisor.
