Position Summary: Under direction of the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Supervisor, the incumbent of this position safely repairs, installs, maintains, monitors, operates, records, and troubleshoots Heating and Cooling systems, (gas, steam, hot water, chilled water and refrigerated), Energy Management systems, Pneumatic and Digital Control systems, with a large variety of Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Refrigeration equipment (boilers, steam convertors, pumps, thermostats, valves, actuators, variable frequency drives, computer software, air filtration, water treatment, and air moving equipment) to ensure that measurable scheduled heating, cooling and fresh air ventilation occurs in University buildings and plants.
This is a refrigeration emphasized essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or University closure.

Experience equivalent to approximately four years with an emphasis on refrigeration equipment and systems as an HVAC/refrigeration apprentice or equivalent combination of field training and education.
At least 4 years experience working in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration.
Experience using power tools, reading blueprints and specifications, testing motors, trouble shoot mechanical systems,
Repairing, calibrating, and maintaining electronic operated systems.
Ability to: operate a personal computer.
HVAC basic design considerations; thermal storage applications; energy conservation and heat recovery programs; self-powered, electric, pneumatic and digital controls and their end devices; thermodynamic tables and charts; operator software interface with distributed digital controls; and DDC programming.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Physical ability to: bend, stoop and climb ladders; lift, carry and/or otherwise move approximately 70 pounds.
Required Licensures, Certifications or other
Must possess or able to acquire a current State of Idaho HVAC Journeymans license and possess or acquire universal certification for handling refrigerants (as required by Federal regulation 40 CFR, part 82, subpart F); OR a degree in a related field and universal certification for handling refrigerants (as required by Federal regulation 40 CFR, part 82, subpart F). If not, must have the ability to obtain both a current State of Idaho HVAC Journeymans license and universal certification for handling refrigerants (as required by Federal regulation 40 CFR, part 82, subpart F) within 12 months of hire.
Must possess a valid motor vehicle operators license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving University vehicles.
