This recruitment will be used to fill future full-time, part-time, and temporary HVAC Control Technician positions at Oregon State University-Cascades. These positions will be located in Bend, OR.

This position is part of the Facilities & Operations group at the OSU-Cascades campus in Bend, Oregon. Facilities & Operations' purpose is to design, construct, operate, repair, maintain and preserve the physical facilities and utility systems of the campus. We provide timely, cost effective and professional services that enhance the instructional, research, and service goals of the University.

The OSU-Cascades campus includes five buildings totaling 240,000 SF, and 128 acres of grounds (28 acres developed as of 2022). The campus has been on a steady growth trajectory since construction began in 2015. The HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) Control Technician uses knowledge of pneumatic and electrical/electronic controls to perform skilled work installing, altering, calibrating, repairing, and maintaining HVAC control systems, building automation control systems, and energy management control systems to ensure safe and correct environmental and ecological conditions in State buildings. Skills in basic carpentry, mechanical maintenance, plumbing and light electrical are essential in the maintenance and repair of campus facilities. The position is supervised by and assists the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and provides direction to student workers in the maintenance group.

Knowledge of and ability to accurately apply National Building Codes as well as state and local standards and regulations.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on telephone, and to understand and follow instructions.

Ability to read, interpret and follow building blueprints, diagrams and instruction.

Ability to think critically and work through problems in a practical manner, and interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Ability to or willingness to learn how to use current technology and devices such as computers and iPads to complete paperwork, timecards and all other necessary procedures.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 50 pounds numerous times throughout the day.

Ability to bend, rotate, kneel, work on back and work overhead on a ladder, and easily manage rough terrain or stairs.

Ability to operate machinery and power tools, drive a state-owned vehicle and, work in harsh weather conditions, including, but not limited to snow, ice, rain, wind, dust, smoke and heat.

Willing to work non-standard work hours to have access to areas that are inaccessible during normal operation hours of the university (e.g. working 5:00am to 1:30pm) or to work on a weekend to support university functions (schedule to be planned in advance).
