Detailed Job Description
RIT is looking for a Platform Engineering Manager to join the Information Technology Services (ITS) team where we are always on to something amazing!

This position is primarily responsible for managing RIT's Platform Engineering Systems team which is located in the Infrastructure and Operations group within the Information Technology Systems department. The Systems team is responsible for implementation and support of the university's server platforms, including virtualization, cloud, backups, infrastructure automation, devops workflows, and application management in support of the entire university community.

Job Responsibilities :

As a Manager, you are accountable for developing and implementing all operational plans, procedures, and processes for the systems team. You will manage a team of employees who exercises latitude and independence in their assignments/projects, with a focus on procedure, process, and strategy implementation. Focus is on short-term (e.g. 1 year or less) operational plans.

Problems typically involve multiple areas, processes, or constituent groups. Has responsibility for making moderate to significant improvements to processes, systems, or outcomes to enhance the performance of level of the systems team. Influences others outside of own job area on policies, practices, and procedures. May manage certain processes or projects within a defined budget set by management and typically has hiring, firing, promotion and reward authority within own area, in accordance with manager review and approval.

Directly manages/supervises systems staff including individual objectives, work assignments/prioritization/quality, performance monitoring and appraisals, and development.

Plans, organizes, and, implements systems team strategy. Accountable for systems team's overall performance, and operational and/or financial resources. Directs operations and activities of the systems team. Determines priorities and direction of work.

Serves as a strategic advisor to executive and senior level managerial staff with authority to independently commit the organization to mission critical projects/programs/services/products or develops budgets and monitor expenditures.

Accountable for legal and policy compliance in managed work unit; manages risk.

Minimum Qualifications
Edcuation/Experience:

• Bachelors degree in information technology, data engineering, computer science, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 7 years of experience in information technology or other related experience
• 3 years of related managerial experience.

Skills:

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills and the ability to facilitate bringing diverse stakeholders to consensus.
• Demonstrated experience leading Infrastructure, DevOps, Cloud or Systems teams or projects.
• Demonstrated experience developing an empowered team that can inspect and adapt to new information and improve processes incrementally.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and support foundational systems.
• Demonstrated experience managing vendor relationships.
• Demonstrated experience automating service and platform requests.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams and collaborate across reporting boundaries.
