The Senior MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) Project Manager reports to the Director of Engineering, within the Division of Facilities Management and Real Estate (FMRE). The position is responsible for managing and directing engineering on projects in support of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute?s mission, core values, and strategic plan. This position has several key roles and will interface with key cross-functional groups. The position is focused on providing hands-on engineering expertise to guide projects to a successful outcome.

This position has several key roles and responsibilities to include: technical expert and resource for PDC (Planning, Design & Construction) Project Managers, technical & training resource to the Facilities Operations group, assures DFCI?s compliance with MEP/FP codes and standards.
Support Planning, Design and Construction (PDC) Project Managers in the design process and implementation in areas involving MEP/FP. Perform drawing reviews of DFCI Project MEP documents during all design and drawing submissions. Survey field Construction Administration of MEP/FP portion of PDC projects and assist with field coordination as needed. Attend DFCI project meetings as needed to assure compliance with drawings and DFCI design standards, and to expedite field changes where appropriate. Review project submittals and reports to ensure compliance with project requirements and DFCI standards.
Manage, maintain, and enforce MEP/FP standards in accordance with all codes and agreed upon Facilities product needs. Document and/or revise MEP/FP design standards specific to DFCI in coordination with PDC Dept and Facility Operations. Conduct continuous reviews of DFCI Design Standards to stay current with code changes, accepted product standards, and most favored industry standards and practices.
Provide technical engineering support and training to Facilities Operations Group. Facilitate and standardize project turn-over to ensure Facilities Operations is successfully provided required MEPFP system documentation from construction projects.
In support of the Director of Engineering, continuously monitor and help implement systems with New Projects and Operations to best benefit the institute.
Prepare formal RFPs for engineering services where no Architect is required. This includes studies, surveys, and purely infrastructure related improvements and changes.
Work closely with the DFCI Architect to establish, maintain and continuously improve the DFCI Plan, specification, standards, and design intent electronic data base and library adhering to the most current CADD, BIM, REVITT, and allied technologies.
Review DFCI Project MEP drawings and survey field Construction Administration of MEP/FP portion of PDC projects. Attend DFCI project meetings as needed to assure compliance with drawings and to expedite field changes where appropriate.
Monitor and troubleshoot all control systems DDC, Electrical, Pneumatic
Implement training programs pertaining to the DDC systems, updating software revisions, writing new programs to better control mechanical systems.
Revise and establish preventative maintenance procedures to improve equipment performance and Joint Commission compliance.
Bachelors degree in Design Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field required.
A minimum of 15 years of design engineering and project management experience within the healthcare and/research environment OR managing/leading Building management software engineering teams, managing large-scale projects with a focus on smart buildings, and energy efficiency to meet BERDO and MA Stretch code.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Design & Construction management - Understand the construction process, design process, building automation systems, thermodynamics, power generation and distribution, NFPA 101, NFPA 99. Must be competent in BAS operating systems and the IBC and related codes.
Safety - Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective infection control and environmental health and safety.
Decision Making - Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions. Must be able to assess initial acquisition costs vs. lifetime costs and provide in-depth cost justification and cost avoidance reports to upper management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervise consulting engineers who are performing work for DFCI, on more than 10-12 projects at any time. The Senior Engineering Manager must have the ability to influence decision making in operational and energy management areas without benefit of true supervisory responsibilities.
