Job Summary:
Join Our Dynamic Team as a Heating and Cooling Plant Operator I at the University of Kentucky!
Are you ready to be a crucial part of maintaining the heartbeat of our campus? As a Heating and Cooling Plant Operator I, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our facilities operate smoothly and efficiently, all while gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic and essential field.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Partnering with H/C Operator IIs: Collaborate with H/C Operator IIs to assist in preventative maintenance across all Heating and Cooling Plant equipment
Maintaining Mechanical and Pneumatic Equipment: Help keep our critical systems running by maintaining and safely operating the mechanical and pneumatic equipment that powers our campus.
Precision in Record-Keeping: Ensure that maintenance and repair records are meticulously maintained, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of our operations.
Installation and Operation: Assist in the installation, operation, and maintenance of key equipment, including maintaining proper steam pressure and chilled water temperatures.
Boiler Operations: Get hands-on experience in operating and maintaining boilers and associated equipment. From filling and draining boilers to feeding coal and maintaining a uniform coal bed, you'll be at the core of our energy production.
Site Maintenance: Play a key role in keeping our work environment safe and clean by managing water treatment chemicals and associated chemical treatment systems, and maintaining coal and ash handling systems, to ensure the job site is orderly.
This position is required to follow the instructions of the supervisor relative to safety issues as outlined in Physical Plant Division and University Policies and Procedures. Must be able to work overtime when required.
In addition, this position requires:
frequent climbing to various height levels
crawling into tight places
significant lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of 50 lbs. or more
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently exposed to extreme temperature conditions (boiler room, steam pits, outdoor weather, etc.), hazardous chemicals and fumes.
