Are you passionate about audiovisual (A/V) technology and thrive in a hands-on environment? The Office of Teaching, Learning, & Technology at Iowa is currently seeking an A/V Installation Engineer to join the team.
This two-year position functions under the direction of the A/V Engineering Manager for Learning Spaces Technology and holds primary responsibility for installation and configuration of low-voltage electronics and audiovisual equipment in various campus locations.
What you'll do:
Install & Configure: Set up low-voltage electronics and A/V equipment in conference rooms, classrooms, labs, studios, and more.
Collaborate: Work closely with various trades (electrical, carpentry, etc.) to fulfill installation requirements and ensure quality.
Support & Troubleshoot: Assist with setup, operation, and repair of A/V systems, diagnosing and resolving technical issues as they arise.
Document & Maintain: Keep accurate records of installations and processes, helping to maintain consistent A/V standards.
Hands-On Work: Regularly move and transport equipment (up to 50 lbs) and ascend/descend ladders to install, service, and inspect devices.
This role has a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge A/V solutions that enhance the learning experience for students, faculty, and staff across the University. This position has a project assignment of 2 years from the date of hire and is classified as a "specified term appointment" as a Communication Infrastructure Engineer (PIB2) with full fringe benefits.

The ITS Office of Teaching, Learning, and Technology provides expertise, tools, and services to optimize teaching and learning through learning sciences research, ICON, teaching and learning data, and advanced classroom and instructional technology. The Learning Spaces Technology team provides technology consulting, training, and management of more than 300 technology-equipped learning spaces across campus and designs and install audio visual equipment in classrooms, labs, and meeting spaces to meet the needs of instructors, students, and staff. Required Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a total of typically 5 years of experience installing and configuring audiovisual technology and/or low-voltage electronics. This could include:
A high school diploma or GED and typically 5 years of experience.
An associate's degree or technical diploma and typically 3 years of experience.
A bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the position and typically 1 year of experience.
Strong proficiency in the use of power tools, hand tools, and other equipment necessary for the installation of permanent audiovisual technology.
Proficient in construction techniques.
Physical ability to routinely move and transport computer and audiovisual equipment up to 50 pounds. Ability to position self to securely install, mount, and/or hang a wide range of audiovisual equipment and ascend/descend ladders.
Working knowledge of standard practices for low-voltage system installation and cable labeling.
Working knowledge of the latest trends in audiovisual technology.
Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to markup project documents, write and deliver clear instructions, and create work summaries.
Demonstrated ability to work both individually and as part of a coordinated project team.

Desirable Qualifications:
A/V or low-voltage related certifications such as AVIXA CTS, or CTS-I, BICSI technician.
Working familiarity with CSI Division 27 standards for construction specifications.
Experience troubleshooting audiovisual systems and/or communication systems.
Experience terminating, running, and testing prewire or retrofit low-voltage cables (SDI, coaxial, speaker, and/or control cable)
Experience installing components of audiovisual architecture and infrastructure (mounting projectors and screens, installing LCD/LED screens, A/V rack wiring, installing speakers).
Familiarity with Extron, Crestron, and/or similar audiovisual equipment.
