Position Description
The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) invites applications for a non-tenure system Assistant Professor of Practice position in Systems Engineering. The position will focus on teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Duties include: (1) Prepare and teach undergraduate and graduate level lectures and labs using existing course materials as a guide and template; (2) develop and teach additional courses per the department's needs; (3) compile and submit assessment data per departmental procedures; (4) participate in course and instructor evaluations; (5) may work with one or more TAs; (6) collaborate with other faculty in the department on course materials and instruction; (7) other service duties as assigned.
The appointment commences for the fall 2025 semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: A PhDor MS in Systems Engineering, or in a related discipline with a systems engineering focus such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science is required prior to employment. Industry experience is highly preferred, including experience in teaching technical courses in industry. At least three years of experience teaching at the college or university level in engineering or related STEM field is required. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
Preferred Education and Experience: Teaching experience in various areas of systems engineering, including but not limited to engineering management, requirements engineering, quality engineering, risk analysis, and life-cycle cost analysis. Experience collaborating with industry professionals on student projects, including experience mentoring student interns or student capstone projects.
The Department and University
The Department of Systems Engineering offers BS and MS degrees in Systems Engineering with a total enrollment of approximately 100 students. UT Dallas is situated in Richardson, TX, one of the most attractive suburbs in the Dallas metropolitan area. The university sits in close proximity to the telecom corridor, home to several hundred high-technology companies.
