Industrial Design Summer Adjunct Faculty Positions

The School of Architecture and Design (SoAD) is currently seeking part-time adjunct faculty members for the 2025 summer semester to teach in-person courses within its Industrial Design program on campus in Boston. Courses include a senior Capstone Design Studio (MW, 1:15-4:45pm) as well as a Senior Seminar (TH, 2-4:35pm) and a Technical Elective focused on data visualization (MW, 10-11:45am).

The summer term classes begin on May 6th and end on August 5th, followed by the review and exam period.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Master’s Degree in Industrial Design or a related design field (e.g., Master of Design, Master of Fine Arts, Master of Architecture, DDes, or PhD) 

• Prior university level teaching and professional industrial design experience

• Flexibility in teaching approach to address diverse student needs and interests

The SoAD guides students to engage locally and globally, explore advanced technologies, collaborate within and across disciplines, gain industry experience via cooperative education, and learn to design sustainably and equitably. Comprising approximately 810 undergraduate and 90 graduate students, the SoAD has robust international study opportunities at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.  

About the Industrial Design Program:

With approximately 120 students, the Industrial Design program emphasizes the connection between traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technologies, preparing students to excel in the rapidly evolving field of design. The curriculum blends foundational skills like drawing, model-making, and material manipulation (e.g., paper, wood, metal, and plastic) with emerging technologies such as 3D printing, AR/VR, AI, and digital prototyping.

Students complete two mandatory co-ops, bridging the gap between academia and industry, reinforcing coursework, and gaining valuable professional experience.
