The Gordon Institute seeks an exceptionally talented, experienced, and inspiring individual with a successful commercial/business/entrepreneurial background combined with an academic/teaching track record to lead the Tufts Entrepreneurship Center. As Cummings Family Professor of the Practice of Entrepreneurship, and Director of the Entrepreneurship Center, you'll be responsible for:
growing the breadth and depth of current entrepreneurship focused academic offerings;
building productive corporate and academic partnerships that will enhance the Center's brand awareness and substantive contribution to the Tufts experience for students, faculty, and members of the community;
overseeing and expanding the Center's important co-curricular activities which currently include a summer accelerator, numerous workshops, student mentoring events, special seminars and lectures, and a number of student competitions, including the flagship entrepreneurial competition, the Tufts $100k New Ventures competition;
partnering with, and co-leading the Center's Board of Advisors to continue developing a robust vision and strategy for social and commercial entrepreneurship at Tufts University;
spearheading important fundraising initiatives to strengthen the Center's strategic viability and long term sustainability,
collaborating with staff and faculty to evolve the structure and role of the Center to play an increasingly important role in the overall Tufts mission and experience, and
expanding the Center's engagement with Tufts University's undergraduate and graduate colleges, as well as with corporate leaders in key east coast and west coast cities, where active Tufts entrepreneurial alumni thrive.
The Tufts Entrepreneurship program offers the largest and highest rated undergraduate minor at Tufts University, enrolling over 500 undergraduates each year. As the academic leader for the Entrepreneurship Center you'll work with the Executive Director of the Tufts Gordon Institute and faculty to enhance and extend academic offerings that allow Tufts students to discover the power of entrepreneurship, including teaching entrepreneurship and advising/coaching both undergraduate and graduate students.
The Tufts Entrepreneurship Center is a key part of the Gordon Institute at Tufts University. With over 30 workshops, events, and competitions throughout the year, connecting students with highly talented professors, advisors, and coaches with deep industry experience, the Center develops entrepreneurial skills throughout the university. While inside the School of Engineering, the Gordon Institute serves students from all of Tufts' academic and professional schools, including undergraduates, full-time graduate students and part-time graduate students (working professionals,) offering graduate degrees in innovation and entrepreneurship, and engineering management, and undergraduate minors in entrepreneurship and engineering management. With its recently expanded online programming, and its rich co-curricular programs, the Institute strives to develop the innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership mindset and skillsets across the university and beyond, enabling faculty, students, and staff to translate their research and ideas into high impact ventures, from start up to scale up, for profit, or non-profit, building a worldwide community of transformative leaders, with heart, who can solve our world's complex challenges with empathy and humanity.
The Tufts' School of Engineering (SOE) distinguishes itself by the interdisciplinary focus and integrative nature of its engineering education and research programs, within the intellectually rich environment of both a "Research I" university and a top-ranked undergraduate institution. The past ten years have been a period of extraordinary growth for SOE at Tufts, with recruitment of over half of its current tenured and tenure-track faculty members and a more than three-fold increase in research productivity. A Master's degree or higher level of academic certification is required, and a PhD in a relevant field is desirable. All candidates should possess a passion and proven talent for teaching; a track record of academic course and program development; deep experience in launching and leading successful businesses; proven ability to organize, motivate, manage and direct individuals and teams; meaningful experience in academic, or non-profit, fund raising and alumni/donor cultivation; and relevant experience in Board leadership.
Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to build a successful mission-based organization while manifesting personal behaviors of professionalism, commitment, integrity, strong work ethic, perseverance, and ability to successfully inspire and manage others.
