Northeastern University's Galante Engineering Business Program offers a progressive opportunity for engineering students to complement their technical engineering education with business skills by earning a graduate certificate in engineering business. Galante is founded on the values of student engagement and leadership to strengthen interpersonal and professional skills.
This Program Assistant position provides support for the Galante Engineering Business Program at Northeastern University, comprising a Program Director and up to 50 Galante Engineering Business Fellows. These Fellows have undergone a selection process and have been chosen to participate in the Program, which encompasses both academic and co-curricular components. Once accepted, each Fellow remains part of the Program throughout their academic journey, which could include obtaining a Masters in engineering alongside their undergraduate studies.
The Program includes various events throughout the academic year, offering Fellows opportunities for professional development, skill enhancement for careers in engineering management, and fostering a sense of community. These events are often open not only to Galante Fellows but also to students from the NU College of Engineering (COE) and the D'Amore-McKim School of Business.
The role of the Program Assistant encompasses four key responsibilities within the Galante Program: (1) coordinating and supporting Program events; (2) sending weekly newsletters to share updates with Fellows; (3) assisting with marketing and student engagement; and (4) managing and maintaining records for candidates and Fellows involved in the Program.
During Galante Engineering Business events, the individual in this role will act as the project leader and primary point of contact. They will oversee event setup, hosting, facilitation, and provide technical and logistical assistance. This role demands the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and effectively troubleshoot issues as they arise. The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational, planning, creative, and interpersonal skills. They will handle tasks such as coordinating with speakers, reserving event spaces, managing catering arrangements, designing tent/name cards, signage, flyers, and other promotional materials. Additionally, collaboration with the Program Director is crucial to schedule, promote, execute, and finalize records for all Galante Engineering events.
The Program Assistant will collaborate with the Program Director and COE marketing to develop a marketing plan for the Galante program. This plan will involve utilizing various communication channels, including social media platforms and newsletters, to reach both internal and external stakeholders. Building partnerships with COE student chapters and other relevant entities will also be essential for effectively promoting the Galante program.
Responsibilities also encompass managing Fellows' information upon acceptance into the program and subsequently maintaining their records. This involves liaising with academic advisors and ensuring Fellows' academic and Galante Program statuses are accurately maintained. Additionally, the Program Assistant will coordinate important academic milestones, such as participation in Commencement, and will track Fellows' career progression after graduation. The weekly newsletters sent by the Program Assistant will serve as a consistent means of sharing updates, fostering engagement, and strengthening the Galante Program community.
