The School of Visual Communication at Ohio University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI), UX/UI Design, Information Graphics, and Data Visualization. This role is central to Ohio University’s commitment to interdisciplinary innovation, societal impact, and academic leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching: Design and deliver courses on AI, UX/UI, data visualization, and information graphics, focusing on applications in healthcare, energy, and environmental sectors.
Research: Develop a collaborative research agenda to advance AI for topics such as data visualization for healthy aging, energy management, and sustainability. This includes leading interdisciplinary projects that integrate data visualization to solve real-world problems.
Center Contribution: Play a key role in expanding the AI-UX/UI Research Center at Scripps College, driving initiatives establishing Ohio University as a leader in AI-enhanced design and visualization.
Funding and Partnership: Secure external funding to support projects that leverage AI for societal challenges, including partnerships with healthcare, environmental, and technology organizations.
Expected Impact:
Enhance Ohio University’s academic and research profile by spearheading interdisciplinary AI, data visualization, and UX/UI research.
Develop educational pathways that equip students with industry-relevant, AI-enhanced design skills.
Contribute to community well-being through research initiatives that address critical areas such as healthy aging and environmental sustainability.

An MFA or terminal degree in a relevant field (e.g., Artificial Intelligence, Data Visualization, UX/UI Design, Information Design) or MA degree plus seven (7) years of work experience.
Demonstrated experience in teaching and research, with a proven ability to conduct interdisciplinary projects.
