Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Chief Operating Engineer Busch Cogen Plant for Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Reporting to the Manager, Central Plants, this position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair and improvement of the Central Heating Plants, Busch Cogeneration Plant, High Temp Hot Water Systems, Chilled Water Distribution Systems and all associated equipment. Position acts as the Chief of the College Avenue Central Heating Plant in his/her absence.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Coordinates and manages diverse utility projects.
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Busch Cogeneration Plant, Busch Central Heating Plant and the Chilled Water Distribution Systems.
Responsible for the scheduling and management of all equipment shutdowns for maintenance and state inspections as well as a continual preventative maintenance program.
Communicates with all affected customers in the event of any system interruptions in regard to the nature of the outage, how it will affect them and the duration of the interruption. There is emergency plant power capability (l000KW generator) at the Busch Cogeneration Plants in the event of a facility wide power failure.
Supervision of plant operating engineers, including training and ensuring safety compliance with all regulatory statutes.
Acts as supervisor for all Central Plants in the absence of the other Chief Operating Engineer.
Provides guidance and instruction on procedures and equipment associated with all plant operations.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of 5 years experience in Central Healing Plant management, including experience in the area of cogeneration and refrigeration.
A minimum of five years of supervisory experience including bargaining unit and contract repair personnel is required.

Equipment Utilized:
The position needs to be proficient in control systems including, but not limited to, system components for Dual Fuel Turbines, Heat Recovery Units, Boilers, Heat Exchangers, Pumps, Refrigeration Machines and Cooling Towers.
The position must be familiar with Data Acquisition Software required to operate and monitor the plant and equipment under his/her supervision.
Be proficient in the use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (AIM) for all preventative, routine and emergency work orders and appropriating time accounting for all employees. Computer literacy including Energy Management Software, Equipment Monitoring and Microsoft Office is a requirement.
